The Grand Rapids Pride Center (GRPC) since 1988 has been empowering the LGBTQ community in Grand Rapids and West Michigan. Turning 30 in 2018, GRPC offers 10 different social support groups, including Youth, Young Adult, Parents, Family, Men’s, Women’s, Own Your Gender, Cross-Dresser, and our new Queer & Trans Youth of Color group.
In 2018, GRPC served approximately 2500 community members and held 200 individual groups sessions. We offered free therapy to young people ages 13-24 and their parents, working to create safe homes and safe families. GRPC also offers training and consultation for area businesses and organizations. Our goal is to create a community of safe & inclusive employers and service providers.
In addition to our social and support groups, GRPC offers study areas and access to educational materials for any member of our community, creating safe spaces for those who may not have one. There are also several events organized by GRPC during the year, including Transgender Day of Remembrance and Transgender Day of Visibility, health service and advocacy events, which allow members of the LGBTQ community and the community at large to come out, be present, and represent an inclusive and diverse Grand Rapids community.
The Grand Rapids Pride Center also organizes Grand Rapids Pride Festival every year! Also celebrating its 30th birthday in 2018, the Grand Rapids Pride Festival is a one-day event where anybody, regardless of sexual orientation, gender identity or gender expression can join us in celebrating our Grand Rapids LGBTQ community.
