To our 2-SLGBTQ+ community,
The Grand Rapids Pride Center is committed to confronting systems of oppression and the violence that succeeds it on a local, national, and global level. We call for an end to both the genocide and the settler-colonial occupation through a permanent ceasefire in Gaza, standing in solidarity with our global 2-SLGBTQ+ siblings facing persecution at the intersection of race, ethnicity, religion, disability, gender, sexuality, and more. We urge our community to continue to call your representatives, as Palestinian liberation is inherently tied to our collective liberation. From Sudan to Palestine, Yemen to Chad, Haiti to Hawaii, we are concerned with the ongoing struggles for freedom and bear witness to the genocides being committed at this time.
Our youth created an artistic rendering of the Palestinian flag, which now hangs in our Center’s front windows. We firmly believe in supporting the rights of Palestinian people to live safely and on their land. Furthermore, we are explicitly against militarism, Islamophobia, antisemitism, and ethnic cleansing, and believe that our stance rings true to this. GRPC understands that right-wing based Zionism is not a reflection of the majority of the Jewish community, which adheres to a basic Jewish tenet of valuing all human life and that there are a lot of Jewish folks who stand in agreement with a ceasefire. Our doors are open to share space with our community members from all backgrounds who are processing this situation, grieving loss, and/or fighting for change in the ways that they can.
