GRAND RAPIDS PRIDE PAGEANT:
Luminary Crown
Luminary Crown
Grand Rapids Pride Pageant, or The Luminary Crown, is an annual competition that crowns an Ambassador of the Grand Rapids Pride Center (GRPC). This event celebrates and elevates exemplary leadership within the West Michigan 2-SLGBTQ+ community by showcasing queer and trans visibility, highlighting community-based advocacy, establishing local 2-SLGBTQ+ leaders, and generating funding for GRPC’s programs and services.
A luminary is someone who inspires others, lights the way forward, and leaves a lasting impact on their community. The Luminary Crown recognizes individuals who embody these qualities through leadership, authenticity, service, and advocacy, honoring those who illuminate a brighter future for the 2-SLGBTQ+ community.
What is The Luminary Crown?
The Luminary Crown is more than a pageant, and it’s not a drag competition. It’s a celebration of the many ways our community leads. Whether through artistry, advocacy, education, organizing, storytelling, or showing up authentically, contestants are recognized for the impact they make both on and off the stage. The competition is open to people of all genders and gender presentations, and contestants are encouraged to express themselves in whatever way feels most authentic to them.
Each year, one contestant is crowned the Luminary Crown Ambassador, representing the Grand Rapids Pride Center throughout the year and helping advance our mission of creating a more equitable and affirming community.
